diy: le t-shirt scarf

i decided to try my hand on making one of the t-shirt scarves that are all over the web right now. it was pretty easy. lola was happy to model one for you. diy tips, a video & more after le-jump…

what i did…& a little cutie at the end of the video…

music: samamidon.

strike a pose.

all you need are a few t-shirts. i went to my favorite place to get t-shirts for crafts: goodwill, only $1.00 per shirt. i also haphazardly bleached the shirts. the lighter one you see in the top photo was actually a really ugly olive-brown. the purple one was a bit darker, i put that one in some watered down bleach. you can also tie dye or do nothing at all. the larger the shirt, the larger the loops. oh, & make sure to get shirts without the side seams. this will definitely help.

i had a shirt with some screen printed graphics, which didn’t stretch properly. i ended up cutting off the pieces that didn’t curl & added some knots, which is a great alternative.

to assemble: just wrap some scrap (curled) fabric around the loops. i tied a tight knot to start, wrapped, & tucked the fabric back under. you can hand stitch a bit to make it more secure.

for more inspirations & examples:
+ getting crafty – hipster scarves.
+ slashy scarf
+ diy t-shirt scarf, a slightly different way of doing it.
+ braided t-shirt scarf, pretty neat.

a few of the knotted loops…

& an outtake…

what a steady hand you have ana! i couldn’t cut a straight line for the life of me. 🙂

i have several tshirts that could be turned into necklaces (i usually turn them into rags, but necklaces might be better!). i enjoyed the video — thanks! your models melt my heart time and time again…
