…i’ve been archiving film lately, organizing & reorganizing my binders full of film sleeves and proof sheets…it got me thinking of my etsy photography site & the whole selling of photos in general. it is such a saturated market in etsy – with some shops obviously hitting the market just right. (there are so many ttv & overly textured/action-ed photos out there & it’s just not me, even though i do enjoy a lot of them).
so with that, i looked over my photo-etsy site and have decided to give it a makeover. i need a more concise product line; better sections & a definite point of view. that is my goal for the next week or so. (especially since the microscope i use is down for repair for the next week at work…hah!) i have to get a collection of work together that i love, put it out there, & hope it is loved back. i just feel a bit scatter brained with my photography as of late; in a bit of a rut.

ooh i REALLY like that photograph. i'm way into weird old buildings.
i agree that photography has gotta be one tough nut to crack in the Etsyverse. i do appreciate a lot of what's out there, but it's easy to see there is an emerging "etsy look" going on…
being your own editor is, i think, the toughest part about presenting a cohesive shop. it's my ongoing struggle.
good luck with your makeover. i'm hearting your shop to check it out on the flip side.
This is a very good idea. I really like your photos
Totally agree with you. I like a little texture every once in awhile but I prefer my photos to be beautiful without all that editing. If I hear one more time "I love your work! As soon as I get some money Im coming back to buy some". Im trying an art show in a couple months. Hopefully Ill do better there.
Good luck with your makeover!!
Great pic! And it's a worthy goal you have there… good luck
!!
loved that pic the first time i saw it and love it again! yep, etsy is doubly saturated for me, photography and jewelry: the two biggest categories next to supplies. i love your work though. good luck with your reorg.
I know what you mean. The whole art world is saturated. I think you have the right direction of focusing your line. I'm trying to do the same thing. Out with the old and in with the new!
i love that photo!
I think your photography is great, all of it. The photoswap stuff was awesome too. But it's always great to spruce things up, although to me it looked lovely already. I'm sure it'll be even lovelier <—that word looks really weird spelled out…
thank you all for such great words of encouragement and whatnot ::hugs::
i feel your pain, Ana. i'm sitting on a bunch of photos, too and so far, it's a pretty slow go.
for what it's worth, I ADORE YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY and look forward to your shop's reopening.
oh, one last thing, Ana: have you considered selling prints directly from your blog? Jennifer Young from I Art You features 1 print/week on her blog with a Paypal Buy It Now button. i'm might do the same with some newer prints and wanted to share that idea with you, too.
It's hard to know what other people are going to love enough to actually crack out the cash for. Believe me, I feel your pain. I look at the handful of successful Etsy photogs and sometimes think, "My work is at least as good as this. So why isn't mine selling like hotcakes, too?" Or, I think, "Wow. Those photos are amazing. No wonder people are buying these pictures of Paris, Venice, etc. and not my pictures of Paris, Venice, etc." In the end though, I have to just keep shooting what I love, the way I love, and if other people don't love it enough to buy it, I can't let that get me down. I take pictures because I *have* to. Not because it's a living. Though a living from this thing I love and just *have* to do would be a dream come true, don't get me wrong. I just have to stay focused and not get my motivations twisted: it's about a passion for the art (of photography) and not a pursuit of a paycheck or profit. Right?
